Hi, I’m Michael Regan

Having served our community as your Independent State Member for Wakehurst and Mayor of Northern Beaches for the past 18 years, I’m excited to continue representing Wakehurst in the NSW Parliament.

As an Independent, I don’t take instructions from party headquarters or corporate donors. That independence allows me to stand up for Wakehurst, push for smart solutions, and hold the government to account, no matter who’s in power.

All I need is your vote!

Some achievements as your Member for Wakehurst

Better Healthcare
- Northern Beaches Hospital now in public hands, with private services retained.
- Expanded public hospital services, including cardiovascular and stroke treatment.
- Improved hospital staffing ratios.
- My Private Member’s Bill ensured no windfall profit paid to private operator Healthscope.
- Opened the Brookvale Safe Haven and Youth Mental Health Hub.
Improved Public Transport
- Delivered new B-Line and bendy buses.
- Opened NSW’s first electric bus fleet at Brookvale.
- Helped secure a wage subsidy for our bus drivers.
Quality Public Education
- Secured $15 million for a new multi-purpose hall at NBSC Cromer Campus, including indoors sports courts available for community use.
- Rolled out TAFE Educational Pathways Program to ten public schools across Northern Beaches, delivering dedicated careers and apprenticeship support.
- Expanded high school choices for Brookvale Public students.
Climate Protection
- Stopped Lizard Rock re-zoning.
- Helped stop PEP 11 and backed NSW legislation banning offshore seabed mining and exploration.
- Great Koala National Park delivered in full, protecting 176,000 hectares of state forest and critical habitat for more than 12,000 koalas and 100 threatened species.
- Helped secure $30,000 fine for sediment run-off in the Manly Dam catchment and a government survey confirming climbing galaxias still survive there.
Repaired Active Spaces
- $6.7m to replace the damaged Narrabeen Athletics Track with a new flood-resilient, World Athletics compliant facility.
- Brought Belrose’s County Road playing field into Council ownership, making upgrades possible.
- Upgraded Long Reef boardwalk.
Road & Safety Upgrades
- Wakehurst Parkway upgrades now underway.
- Long overdue resurfacing of Pittwater Road at Long Reef complete.
- Installed surveillance cameras and anti-climb mesh at Forest Way graffiti hotspot.
- New pedestrian fencing and safer crossings on Forest Way, near Wakehurst Public School.
Density Done Well
- Championed bushfire-safe planning, introducing a Bill to stop re-zonings where the Rural Fire Service identifies unacceptable risk and challenging planning changes that could weaken how bushfire advice informs decisions.
- Defended Northern Beaches Council’s Brookvale Structure Plan against ad hoc overdevelopment, backing more housing through coordinated precinct planning with the infrastructure and community benefits to support it.
- Fought to maximise affordable and essential worker housing on the former Forest High School site as it is redeveloped in to the new Frenchs Forest Town Centre.
Safe & Vibrant Communities
- Worked with the crossbench to secure historic 50% ($184 million) funding boost to frontline domestic and family violence services in NSW.
- Worked with Surfing NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW and the local surfing community to obtain better shark surveillance and mitigation along our coastline.
- Championed the Brookvale Arts District.
- Staying Home Leaving Violence program rolled out across NSW.
Eased Cost of Living
- Helped establish NSW Home Energy Saver Program, which offers interest-free loans up to $15,000 enabling households, landlords and renters to buy energy efficient technologies and save money.
